  • Speedo and tach inop. any tips? 2006 Sportster 155

I just purchased a 2006 sportster, speedo and tach don't work, previous owner had it for a year, said it didn't work for him either,so I don't know if they went out at the same time or individually. Has anybody else had these issues? I know my Polaris had problems with the MFD constantly. if it's an inherent problem,I'll live without it. Thanks! Warriorking.

You will have to test the speedo sensor in order to rule that part out, they are prone to going bad.
As for the tach not working.... this is usually the gauge simply has failed, but you will need to test the gauge as well as the signal wires that supply the electrical signal to the tach.

Only thing that would cause both to fail together would be a failed MPEM module. Sure hope it isn't that.

There is a separate ground wire on the battery that if not connected, gauges wont work.
